Department of FL provides a thorough and professional foreign language offer to both the students of Lublin University of Technology as well as the participants of the international exchange programme Erasmus+ at the language proficiency levels described by the Common European Framework of Reference. We aim to achieve this by offering various forms of teaching that confirm to the modern education standards and the recommendations of the European Council, in order to meet the needs of the University and the labour market. We want to create conditions for teaching and learning foreign languages for academic and professional purposes which promote different forms of multilingualism and multiculturalism and all ensure future employment and mobility of University graduates.
We offer English, German, Russian and Spanish courses on all levels of proficiency from A1 to C2. We also teach Polish language and culture to the foreigners who have decided to commence daytime studies at various faculties, or participate in internship programmes.
Staff of DFL is following the latest achievements in methodology to face the needs of both our students and the requirements of the labour market. To meet this demand we offer linguistic laboratories equipped with computer hardware indispensable for performing examinations on-line and conducting classes using multi-media material. We try to make use of the latest technological developments: such as computers, multi-media projectors, or interactive boards.
Since 1999, as the Accredited Examination Centre of LCCI IQ from EDI (London Chamber of Commerce and Industry International Qualifications from Education Development International), we have been providing professional English examinations.
Since 2006, as the Accredited Examination Centre of ETS (Educational Testing Service, Princeton, USA), we have been conducting the following certification examinations:
- English: TOEFL®, TOEFL® Junior, TOEIC® Listening and Reading, TOEIC® Speaking and Writing, TOEIC Bridge TM,
- German: WiDaF®, WiDaF Basic®
- French: TFI TM.
In 2013 DFL became the first Accredited Examination Centre of MONDIALE Testing in Poland obtaining rights to run MONDIALE Technical English examinations.
In 2017 DFL became the Accredited Examination Centre of telc gGmbH (The European Languages Certificates) obtaining rights to run telc exams.
Preparatory courses for these examinations are also offered by the DFL.

- over 1000 people have passed LCCI
- over 3000 people have passed TOEIC®
- over 300 people have passed TOEFL®
- 31 people have passed TFI TM
- 11 people have passed WiDaF®
- over 200 people have passed MONDIALE

„University of Technology in the 21st Century – Strengthening of the Didactic Potential of the University”.
The DFL was responsible for the realisation of the language training part of this project. The course was aimed at 48 academic teachers running classes in English and ended with TOEFL® iBT examination (2010-2012). The project included also English classes at the Faculty of Mechatronics.
„Polub PolLub” – project took place between 2009 and 2013. It offered a course of English addressed to students of the ordered subjects. The courses ended with exams: TOEIC® L&R and TOEIC® S&W.
„Modern Education – Development of the Didactic Potential of the Lublin University of Technology” a course devoted to raising linguistic competence of academic teachers and administrative staff was one of the components of this project. Participants of the language training, being a part of the project successfully completed it with certificates of TOEIC® Listening and Reading and TOEIC® Speaking and Writing and LCCI English For Business examinations. The course was conducted in 2008-2010.

In 2009 the Department of Foreign Languages of Lublin University of Technology started cooperation with the Iwan Franko Pedagogic State University in Drohobycz, Ukraine which concerned conducting international examinations in English - TOEIC®, TOEFL®, and in German - WiDaF®, as well as setting up Foreign Languages Certification Centre at the Pedagogic State University in Drohobycz.

For several years the Department of Foreign Languages together with Student Self-Government have been organizing, competitions of multi-media presentations at individual departments. Their Deans are honorary patrons. Students make presentations in foreign languages on subjects connected with their fields of study. Best speakers win valuable prizes, and all participants are given small presents. Taking part in competitions, students not only develop their professional skills, but also gain new organizational experience. It gives them also an opportunity to face big audience.
