Project description
The project is aimed at strengthening the research and didactic potential of researchers, also early stage researchers employed by universities acceding to the project. The researchers will acquire new research experience in the field of thermoplastic matrix polymer composites processing by means of machines with a screw plasticizing system. Each project partner has at their disposal extruders and injection moulding machines with a single-screw or twin-screw plasticizing system. Their use will contribute to a multifaceted understanding of research issues described in the project topic and to their experimental verification. The staff exchange will contribute to the transfer of knowledge between the individual partners, i.e. between European Union research centres and a third country university in Ukraine. The implementation of the project on advanced materials processing with the use of machines with a screw plasticizing system will be based on the investigation and solution of problems related to processing technology, the design of plasticizing systems and their joint influence on the properties of composite elements obtained.
Project participants are eighteen staff members of four universities forming the Consortium:

  1. Department of Materials Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University in Košice, Košice, Slovakia;
  2. Institute for Production Technology, Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, West Saxon University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau, Zwickau, Germany;
  3. Department of Chemical Technology of Plastics Processing, Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Lviv, Ukraine;
  4. Department of Polymer Processing, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Lublin University of Technology (Poland).

Works will be implemented in four thematic areas: single-screw extrusion, twin-screw extrusion, injection moulding, as well as preparation and properties of thermoplastic composites. Each partner will be responsible for one issue. The subject matter has been chosen according to the experience of each partner. With different universities employing scientists experienced in a given subject, the training courses and other activities thematically linked to a particular area will be conducted in a competent, adequate and effective manner. The qualifications of project participants will be improved through multidimensional activities connected with the said thematic areas. During their secondments to other universities, staff members will be able to participate in scientific research currently conducted by a particular university on thermoplastic polymer composites and their processing. Universities will enable the participation of staff members in laboratory and simulation research as well as the analysis and interpretation of the results obtained. Staff members seconded to another university will participate in specialist training courses, consultations, seminars and workshops employing modern audio-visual media. They will also conduct lectures, consultations and classes. Staff members’ secondments will bring mutual benefits. Through their participation and experimental learning at training courses, seminars and a conference, they will enhance their knowledge with new aspects and experiences. The opportunity to conduct various research and teaching classes, in turn, will allow them to transfer their knowledge also to staff members of partner universities. In this way, the transfer of knowledge will contribute to its development and will generate more inspirations, ideas, and innovation. The range of lectures on offer and research opportunities will be enriched. The exchange of experiences and acquisition of new skills will enhance the quality of education. Other early stage researchers and students will also be encouraged to acquire new practical skills and pursue new, original research activities.
